€690,000 in funding to continue developing the power electronics community.
PowerAlps, the Cross-Disciplinary Program (CDP) at the University of Grenoble Alpes dedicated to power electronics, has announced that it has secured a second grant of €690,000 from the UGA, following the CDP call for proposals. This marks the start of the second phase, ‘PowerAlps 2’, which builds on the foundations laid in 2022.
Recognition of the work achieved
This renewed commitment builds on a first phase, PowerAlps 1, carried out between 2022 and 2025. It demonstrates the university’s conviction that the Grenoble community can come together to tackle a major scientific, industrial and societal challenge.
Power electronics lies at the heart of electrical energy conversion and management. It plays a key role in electric mobility, renewable energy, power grids, industry and the digital sector. The challenges to be addressed are technical, but also economic, geopolitical and environmental.
Four working areas for PowerAlps 2
This new phase is organised around four work packages:
- WP0 – Coordination and governance, which oversees the overall management of the programme and cross-cutting activities.
- WP1 – National Strategy for Power Electronics, focusing on industrialization and training challenges. It is coordinated by the CREG and the CEA.
- WP2 – Technologies for the power electronics value chain, led by LMGP and G2Elab.
- WP3 – Geopolitical, industrial and environmental dimensions, coordinated by G-SCOP and PACTE.
A critical challenge, with much work ahead
This funding demonstrates the UGA’s commitment to this strategic issue, and highlights the significance of the industrial and environmental challenges associated with energy conversion. The PowerAlps team is already hard at work to advance the scientific community in the field of power electronics.
The coming months will be devoted to launching the PowerAlps 2 initiatives. Updates on the program will be published on this website.
Next event: the launch seminar for this new phase, on 11 December 2026 at Green-ER.
