The PowerAlps project promotes a research internship opportunity at the Ampère laboratory (Centrale Lyon) on the design of very high frequency power converters. This work is part of the energy transition and the improvement of the efficiency of electronic systems.

Starting in February 2026

M2 level

This M2 internship offer at the Ampère laboratory at Centrale Lyon is part of research focused on conversion in the VHF frequency band (30-300 MHz). This frequency band offers numerous advantages, including: reduced weight and volume of filtering and energy storage components, reduced losses in semiconductors, functionalization of parasitic elements, and high converter dynamics.

The main objective is to design a standardized DC-DC conversion cell operating above 30 MHz, capable of handling several tens of watts. The intern will begin by familiarizing themselves with the principles of VHF conversion and the design methods developed in the laboratory. They will then draw up specifications, perform the necessary theoretical calculations, and validate the design using simulation tools such as SPICE.
An experimental phase will enable the design and development of a functional prototype, whose performance will be characterized in the laboratory. The second part of the internship will focus on studying the combination of several cells in order to obtain a higher power conversion solution. A specific control system will be studied to ensure coordinated and efficient operation.
The experimental results will be compared with those of a conventional converter according to technical, economic, and environmental criteria in order to evaluate the potential gains of this innovative approach. This work may be continued in a thesis depending on the results obtained and on the intern's interest.
